From all corners of the globe, this winter continues to bring record cold temperatures. Since spring won’t sprung til March 20, it’s time to embrace winter.
To help beat those winter blues, plan a winter staycation. No plane tickets required, and no need to pack a bag – have some winter fun in your own backyard.
4 Steps to Plan a budget-friendly winter staycation:
- Pick a day, or two.
A staycation is a vacation from work, or school, or chores, or anything else part of the regular routine that you need a break from. Treat yourself to a day or two off work. Try building a mini-vacation around February holidays like Constitution Day in Mexico, Family Day in Canada, or President’s Day in the US.
- Unplug, calls can wait.
Get away from your regular routine and devote this time to your family or yourself. You need to unplug to recharge your batteries and really get a breather. Turn off your phone, ignore those texts, and let the emails wait a day.
- Spend a little – get a lot.
Treat your staycation like a vacation by going somewhere new in your own city. Search online for special offers at local museums, theatres, parks, or a new restaurant.
Save on gas by sticking close to home or explore your city using public transit. If you need a break from the kids or pets, trade a day with a neighbor or a friend – they’ll love the break on another day.
- Enjoy the great outdoors.
Whether you need to contend with rain, sleet, or snow, it’s time to head outside. Dress for the weather so you’ll be able to enjoy your time outside. Snowshoe, skate, hit the trails for a walk, or go bird watching.
You deserve a break, so enjoy your staycation.
