The Republic Day holiday is a time for celebration throughout India, so this year, carve out your own slice of patriotism and honor the republic in a special way!
The annual parade through New Delhi is not to be missed, but instead of watching it at home, get a group of family and friends together and watch together. Invent your own dish to mark the national holiday, and serve it at the gathering. Use your creativity. As the parade festivities continue, perform your favorite cultural dances and give small flags to everyone in your group. Wave them proudly and join in a toast as the soldiers pound the Rajpath. Begin your own traditions.
Have some fun outdoors, too. Perhaps even have a picnic to commemorate the day and instill a greater sense of community. Find your neighbors and invite them to join you, and wish them a great day. Instead of cars and buses, ride a bike or a horse. Do something different to make the day special.
If you’re able, do something generous to mark the holiday. Raise money for the less fortunate through a bake sale or by donating clothing. Send someone you love, or someone in need, a gift using an online transfer from Western Union.
It’s your day – so make Republic Day the most festive and memorable holiday of the year! Indian Republic Day is January 26.
